The third edition of Montenegro Film Rendezvous, an industry programme organised by the Film Centre of Montenegro, will bring acclaimed filmmakers, producers and representatives of leading European film institutions, funds and professional networks to Herceg Novi from 22 to 28 August.

Among the programme’s most prominent guests are Nina Hartstone, the Oscar-winning sound editor of Bohemian Rhapsody, and Manuel Alberto Claro, cinematographer of Home, the opening film of the 39th Herceg Novi Film Festival.

Claro, a Chilean-Danish cinematographer and longtime collaborator of Lars von Trier, has worked on films including Melancholia, Nymphomaniac and The House That Jack Built. In Herceg Novi, he will lead a masterclass on cinematography and visual storytelling, offering participants an insight into the creative decisions and working processes behind the visual language of film.

Nina Hartstone arrives in Herceg Novi with the experience of one of contemporary cinema’s most respected sound editors. In addition to her Academy Award for Bohemian Rhapsody, she has received a BAFTA and an Emmy, and her credits include Moonage Daydream, Saltburn and Deaf President Now!. Her masterclass will explore sound, editing and the creative process behind contemporary film productions.

The programme, however, goes beyond encounters with internationally recognised filmmakers. Representatives of the European Producers Club (EPC) and the European Film Agency Directors Association (EFAD) will also take part, alongside representatives of the British Film Institute / UK Global Screen Fund, TRT Sinema and Arts Council Malta. For Montenegrin filmmakers and producers, this represents a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into European models of film development and financing, explore co-production opportunities and connect with professional networks that can help future projects reach an international audience.

“Montenegro Film Rendezvous is conceived as a space where different parts of the film industry can meet - from filmmakers and creative professionals to producers, film centres, funds and European professional networks. We want the programme to be more than a place for meetings and conversations; our aim is for it to generate concrete projects, co-productions and long-term professional connections,” the organisers say.

For a few days, Herceg Novi will thus become a meeting point for the creative and business sides of European cinema. Alongside the experience of internationally acclaimed filmmakers, conversations with representatives of film funds and institutions, and opportunities to connect directly with European professional networks, Montenegro Film Rendezvous seeks to bring into focus something that usually happens behind the festival lights: the creation of new relationships from which the next films may emerge.
